Illeana Douglas is hired to add some "show business sparkle" to her local Burbank IKEA. She soon finds she can't escape Hollywood though when manager Erik (Eric Lange) suggests she compete for the prestigious IKEA "Coworker of the Year" title against coworker and fellow actress Justine Bateman.

While Illeana adjusts to life outside the spotlight with coworkers Gigi (Cheri Oteri) and George (Daryl Sabara), Justine infuses a life an energy into the store with her own talk show "I'm 40 and Bitter" with guest's Ricki Lake and sidekick Spazzy Sheraton (Michael Panes). Spazzy is a snarky gossip guru whose intent on digging through the garbage of celebrities (Kevin Pollak, Tom Arnold). With her refreshing take, Justine instantly becomes an Internet sensation and flavor of the month at IKEA with her live broadcasts from the middle of the store.

Stirring up an old rivalry between the actress's, Illeana starts to come up with more inventive ways to win including staging a dance number in the warehouse, organizing a speed dating night for herself and other "IKEAN'S" and trying to get Sweden's favorite band Sparhusen (Rob Mailhouse, Todd Spahr, Wally Langham, Keanu Reeves) to come out of retirement and play at the store.

After being transferred to the warehouse for "accidentally" stealing cookies Illeana stumbles upon the long lost diary of IKEA designer S. Erland Hussen. (Ed Begley Jr.) With renewed creative spirit and with the help of his ghost she invents the Erland Hussen# 76 and in the process reinvents herself and gets back into the competition in this hilarious "yellow" and blue-collar comedy.
